I am surrounded by lions;I lie down among devouring lions—people whose teeth are spears and arrows,whose tongues are sharp swords.

I am at rest in God alone;my salvation comes from him.

God, hear my voice when I am in anguish.Protect my life from the terror of the enemy.

I am weary from my crying;my throat is parched.My eyes fail, looking for my God.

Don’t hide your face from your servant,for I am in distress.Answer me quickly!

Insults have broken my heart,and I am in despair.I waited for sympathy,but there was none;for comforters, but found no one.

I am oppressed and needy;hurry to me, God.You are my help and my deliverer;Lord, do not delay.

I am like a miraculous sign to many,and you are my strong refuge.

Even while I am old and gray,God, do not abandon me,while I proclaim your powerto another generation,your strength to all who are to come.

For I am afflicted all day longand punished every morning.
