They were utterly amazed at his teaching, because his message was spokenspoken">[fn] with authority.Matthew 6:28-29; Titus 2:15;">[xr]

When the sun was setting, all those who had any friendspeople">[fn] suffering from various diseases brought them to him. He placed his hands on each of them and began healing them.Matthew 8:16; Mark 1:32;">[xr]

One day while Jesushe">[fn] was in one of the cities, a man covered with leprosy saw Jesus and fell on his face, begging him, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean."Matthew 8:2; Mark 1:40;">[xr]

So Jesushe">[fn] reached out his hand and touched him, saying, "I do want to. Be made clean!" Instantly the leprosy left him.

However, he continued his habit of retiring to deserted places and praying.Matthew 14:23; Mark 6:46;">[xr]

When they couldn't find a way to get him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down on his stretcher through the tiles into the middle of the room,of the room">[fn] right in front of Jesus.

Then Levi gave a large banquet at his home for Jesus.him">[fn] A large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.Matthew 9:10; Mark 2:15; Luke 15:1;">[xr]

Once, on the second Sabbath after the first,on a Sabbath">[fn] Jesushe">[fn] was walking through some grainfields. His disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.Matthew 12:1; Mark 2:23;">[xr]

Jesus answered them, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions became hungry?1 Samuel 21:6;">[xr]

How was it that he went into the house of God and took and ate the Bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for anyone but the priests to eat, and gave some of it to his companions?"Leviticus 24:9;">[xr]

He looked around at all of them and then said to the man,him">[fn] "Hold out your hand." The manHe">[fn] did so, and his hand was restored to health.

When daylight came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also called apostles:Matthew 10:1;">[xr]

A disciple is not better than his teacher. But everyone who is fully-trained will be like his teacher.Matthew 10:24; John 13:16; 15:20;">[xr]

A good person produces good from the good treasure of his heart, and an evil person produces evil from an evil treasure. For it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks."Matthew 12:34-35;">[xr]
