As a matter of fact, my friends, I could not talk to you as I talk to people who have the Spirit; I had to talk to you as though you belonged to this world, as children in the Christian faith.

I write this to you, not because I want to make you feel ashamed, but to instruct you as my own dear children.

For the unbelieving husband is made acceptable to God by being united to his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made acceptable to God by being united to her Christian husband. If this were not so, their children would be like pagan children; but as it is, they are acceptable to God.

Do not be like children in your thinking, my friends; be children so far as evil is concerned, but be grown up in your thinking.

I speak now as though you were my children: show us the same feelings that we have for you. Open your hearts wide!
