A jar of sour wine was standing there, so they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth.Matthew 27:48;">[xr]

Since it was the Preparation Day, the Jews did not want to leave the bodies on the crosses during the Sabbath, for that was a particularly important Sabbath. So they asked Pilate to have the men's legs broken and the bodiesthe bodies">[fn] removed.Deuteronomy 21:23; Mark 15:42; John 19:42;">[xr]

But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

They took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths along with spices, according to the burial custom of the Jews.Acts 5:6;">[xr]

Because it was the Jewish Preparation Day, and because the tomb was nearby, they put Jesus there.Isaiah 53:9; John 19:31;">[xr]

So she ran off and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, whom Jesus kept loving. She told them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!"John 13:23; 19:26;">[xr]

They said to her, "Woman, why are you crying?" She told them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where they have put him."

It was the evening of the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked because they were afraid of the Jews.[fn] Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, "Peace be with you."Mark 16:14; Luke 24:36; 1 Corinthians 15:5;">[xr]

After saying this, he showed them his hands and his side, and when they saw the Lord the disciples were overjoyed.John 16:22;">[xr]

Simon Peter said to them, "I'm going fishing." They told him, "We'll go with you, too." So they went out and got into the boat but didn't catch a thing that night.

He told them, "Throw the net on the right hand side of the boat, and you'll catchfind">[fn] some." So they threw it out and were unable to haul it in because it was so full of fish.Luke 5:4,6-7;">[xr]

When they arrived at the shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish lying on it, and some bread.

After saying this, he was taken up while they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight.Luke 24:51; John 6:62; Acts 6:2;">[xr]

While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, two men in white robes were standing right beside them.Matthew 28:3; Mark 16:5; Luke 24:4; John 20:12; Acts 10:3,30;">[xr]

When they came into the city, they went to the upstairs room where they had been staying. They were Peter and John; James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the sonbrother">[fn] of James.Matthew 10:2-4; Luke 6:15; Acts 9:37,39; 20:8; Jude 1:1;">[xr]

So they nominated two men - Joseph called Barsabbas, who also was called Justus, and Matthias.Acts 15:22;">[xr]

So they drew lots for them, and when the lot fell on Matthias, he was added to the eleven apostles.

Suddenly, a sound like the roaring of a mighty windstorm came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.Acts 4:31;">[xr]

They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated, and one rested on each of them.

Stunned and amazed, they asked, "All of these people who are speaking are Galileans, aren't they?Acts 1:11;">[xr]
