"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

And many of them were saying, "He has a demon and is out of his mind! Why do you listen to him?"

(Now it was Mary who anointed the Lord with perfumed oil and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

(Now Jesus had been speaking about his death, but they thought that he was speaking about real sleep.)

Then Thomas (the one who is called Didymus) said to his fellow disciples, "Let us go also, so that we may die with him."

Then Mary, when she came where Jesus was and saw him, fell at his feet, saying to him, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes above and said, "Father, I give thanks to you that you hear me.

The one who had died came out, his feet and his hands bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped with a facecloth. Jesus said to them, "Untie him and let him go."

Then Mary took a pound of ointment of very valuable genuine nard and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.

But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was going to betray him) said,

(His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and they did these things to him.)

The one who loves his life loses it, and the one who hates his life in this world preserves it for eternal life.

Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory, and he spoke about him.

And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So the things that I say, just as the Father said to me, thus I say."

Now before the feast of Passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, and having loved his own in the world, loved them to the end.

because he knew that the Father had given him all things into his hands, and that he had come forth from God and was going away to God,

he got up from the dinner and took off his outer clothing, and taking a towel, tied it around himself.

Jesus said to him, "The one who has bathed only needs to wash his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not all of you."

So when he had washed their feet and taken his outer clothing and reclined at table again, he said to them, "Do you understand what I have done for you?

Truly, truly I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
