"I am not speaking about all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but in order that the scripture would be fulfilled, ‘The one who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'

One of his disciples—the one whom Jesus loved—was reclining close beside Jesus.

Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father residing in me does his works.

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

No one has greater love than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends.

No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I have heard from my Father I have revealed to you.

Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

So some of his disciples said to one another, "What is this that he is saying to us, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me,' and ‘Because I am going away to the Father'?"

His disciples said, "Behold, now you are speaking plainly and are telling us no figurative saying!

Behold, an hour is coming—and has come—that you will be scattered each one to his own home, and you will leave me alone. And I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven he said, "Father, the hour has come! Glorify your Son, in order that your Son may glorify you—

When Jesus had said these things, he went out with his disciples to the other side of the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden into which he and his disciples entered.

(Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, also knew about the place, because Jesus often gathered there with his disciples.)

Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. (Now the name of the slave was Malchus.)

So the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.

Now Simon Peter was standing there and warming himself. So they said to him, "You are not also one of his disciples, are you?" He denied it and said, "I am not!"

And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and placed it on his head, and put a purple robe on him,

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his clothing and made four shares—for each soldier a share—and the tunic. (Now the tunic was seamless, woven from the top in a single piece.)

Now his mother and the sister of his mother, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene were standing near the cross of Jesus.

So Jesus, seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son!"
