This is the One I was talking about when I said, ‘A man will come after me, but he is greater than I am, because he was living before me.'

You yourselves heard me say, ‘I am not the Christ, but I am the one sent to prepare the way for him.'

The bride belongs only to the bridegroom. But the friend who helps the bridegroom stands by and listens to him. He is thrilled that he gets to hear the bridegroom's voice. In the same way, I am really happy.

The woman said, "I am surprised that you ask me for a drink, since you are a Jewish man and I am a Samaritan woman." (Jewish people are not friends with Samaritans.)

Then Jesus said, "I am he—I, the one talking to you."

The sick man answered, "Sir, there is no one to help me get into the pool when the water starts moving. While I am coming to the water, someone else always gets in before me."

"I can do nothing alone. I judge only the way I am told, so my judgment is fair. I don't try to please myself, but I try to please the One who sent me.

Then Jesus said, "I am the bread that gives life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Some people began to complain about Jesus because he said, "I am the bread that comes down from heaven."

I am the bread that gives life.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give up so that the world may have life."

I am not like the bread your ancestors ate. They ate that bread and still died. I am the bread that came down from heaven, and whoever eats this bread will live forever."

Jesus, teaching in the Temple, cried out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. But I have not come by my own authority. I was sent by the One who is true, whom you don't know.

But I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me."

You will look for me, but you will not find me. And you cannot come where I am."

What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,' and ‘You cannot come where I am' ?"

Later, Jesus talked to the people again, saying, "I am the light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness but will have the light that gives life."

Jesus answered, "Yes, I am saying these things about myself, but they are true. I know where I came from and where I am going. But you don't know where I came from or where I am going.

You judge by human standards. I am not judging anyone.

But when I do judge, I judge truthfully, because I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me.
