As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool.

As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless does not come.

[As] the legs hang loose from a cripple: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

As one that binds a stone in a sling, So is he that gives honor to a fool.

[As] a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

[As] an archer that wounds all, So is he that hires a fool and he that hires those that pass by.

As a dog that returns to his vomit, [So is] a fool that repeats his folly.

[As] the door turns on its hinges, So does the sluggard on his bed.

So is the man that deceives his neighbor, And says, Am I not joking?

[As] coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to inflame strife.

As a bird that wanders from her nest, So is a man that wanders from his place.

Oil and perfume rejoice the heart; So does the sweetness of a man's friend [that comes] of hearty counsel.

Iron sharpens iron; So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

As in water face [answers] to face, So the heart of man to man.

[As] a roaring lion, and a ranging bear, [So is] a wicked ruler over a poor people.

So is the way of an adulterous woman; She eats, and wipes her mouth, And says, I have done no wickedness.

For the churning of milk brings forth butter, And the wringing of the nose brings forth blood; So the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.

So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.

Then I said in my heart, As it happens to the fool, so it will happen even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.

So I hated life, because the work that is wrought under the sun was grievous to me; for all is vanity and a striving after wind.
