Shall not their cattle and their substance and all their beasts be ours? only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us.

And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took each man his sword, and came on the city unawares, and slew all the males.

And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went forth.

The sons of Jacob came on the slain, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.

They took their flocks and their herds and their donkeys, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field;

and all their wealth, and all their little ones and their wives, they captured and plundered, as well as all that was in the houses.

And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and, I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and smite me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a prostitute?

And they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hand, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

And they journeyed: and a terror of God was on the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

And they journeyed from Beth-el; and there was still some distance to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.

And his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers; and they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.

And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers: and they hated him all the more.

And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

And he said, I am seeking my brothers: tell me, I pray you, where they are feeding [the flock].

And the man said, They have departed from here; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brothers, and found them in Dothan.

And they saw him far off, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him.

And they said one to another, Look, this dreamer comes.

And it came to pass, when Joseph came to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his coat, the coat of many colors that was on him;

and they took him, and cast him into the pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
