The waters saw you, O God; The waters saw you, they were afraid: The depths also trembled.

That they might set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep his commandments,

And might not be as their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not set their heart aright, And whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

They did not keep the covenant of God, And refused to walk in his law;

And they tempted God in their heart By asking food according to their desire.

Yes, they spoke against God; They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

Because they did not believe in God, And did not trust in his salvation.

When the anger of God went up against them, And slew of the fattest of them, And smote down the young men of Israel.

When he slew them, then they inquired after him; And they returned and sought God earnestly.

And they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their redeemer.

And they turned again and tempted God, And provoked the Holy One of Israel.

Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, And did not keep his testimonies;

When God heard [this], he was angry, And greatly abhorred Israel;

A Psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; Your holy temple they have defiled; They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; And deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name's sake.

Why should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the blood of your slaves which is shed be known among the nations in our sight.

Turn us again, O God; And cause your face to shine, and we shall be saved.

O Yahweh God of hosts, How long will you be angry against the prayer of your people?

The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, And the boughs thereof were [like] cedars of God.
