¹ Then all the people of Iuda toke Uzzia, which was sixteene yeres olde, & made him king in the roome of his father Amaziahu. ² And he built Eloth, and brought it againe to Iuda, after that the king was layde to sleepe with his fathers. ³ Sixteene yeres olde was Uzzia when he began to raigne, and he raigned fiftie and two yeres in Hierusalem: His mothers name also was Iecholia, of Hierusalem. ⁴ And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lorde, according to all as did his father Amaziahu. ⁵ And [it came to passe that] he sought God in the dayes of Zachariahu, who had vnderstanding in the visions of God: And as long as he sought the Lorde, God made him to prosper. ⁶ And he went to battaile against the Philistines, and brake downe the wall of Geth, and the wall of Iabne, and the wall of Asdod, & built cities about Asdod and among the Philistines. ⁷ And God holpe him against the Philistines and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur baal and Hamehunim. ⁸ And the Ammonites gaue tribute to Uzzia, & his name spread abrode euen to the entring in of Egypt: for he played the man exceedingly. ⁹ Moreouer, Uzzia built towres in Hierusalem by the corner gate, and by the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and made them strong. ¹⁰ And he built towres in the wildernesse, and digged many welles: For he had much cattaile in the valleyes & playnes, plowmen and vinedressers in the mountaines and in Charmel: for he loued husbandry.

Moreover, Uzziah had an host of fighting men,.... A standing army:

that went out to war by bands; to annoy his enemies, and to scour the country from thieves and robbers, that came in troops to plunder:

according to the number of their account, by the hand of Jeiel the scribe; the secretary of war, who ordered these bands, settled their number, and directed their destination:

and Maaseiah the ruler; or officer over them, a lieutenant:

under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains; that had the command of them, or at least of one of them.
