1 Kings 7:16 — chapiters. Old French chapiteau, from Latin. capitu-lum = capitals, or crowns. five cubits. So 2 Chronicles 3:15 . But 2 Kings 25:17 says three cubits, not including the "wreathen" or lattice work, which is described separately, and must have been two cubits.
2 Kings 22:12 — Ahikara. The friend of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 26:24 ) and father of Gedaliah (Compare 2 Kings 25:22 .Jeremiah 39:14 , Jeremiah 40:5 ). See note on "Shaphan" (2 Kings 22:3 ). Achbor. Not the same person as Abdon, in 2 Chronicles 34:20 .
2 Kings 25:7 — put out the eyes. So that he did not "see" Babylon, though he was to die there (Ezekiel 12:13 ). But he did "see" the king of Babylon, according to Jeremiah 32:4 ; Jeremiah 34:3 . See note on Genesis 19:11 .
1 Chronicles 6:15 — Jehozadak. The Jozadak was the father of Joshua the high priest, who returned from the Captivity (Ezra 3:2 ; Ezra 5:2 .Nehemiah 12:26 . Haggai 1:1 , Haggai 1:12 .Zechariah 6:11; Zechariah 6:11 ). the LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 .
1 Chronicles 9:5 — Shilonites = Shelonites. Not from the place Shiloh, but from Shelah the son of Judah. Compare 1 Chronicles 2:3 .Numbers 26:28 . Nehemiah 9:5 . So that some from each of the three lines of Judah were included, viz. Pharez, Shelah, Judah.
Numbers 17:10 — said. See note on Numbers 3:40 . testimony = the ark of the covenant, as in Numbers 17:4 . rebels. Hebrew sons of rebellion. Genitive of character = rebellious ones. take away = assuage, or, abate, as in Numbers 17:5 . Compare Genesis 8:1 .
Numbers 22:28 — opened the mouth, &c. Hebrew. patah. Compare Numbers 22:31 . This was Jehovah's work (as in Numbers 22:31 ). But how could Satan open the mouth of the serpent, which has no organs of speech? See Genesis 3:1 , &c, and App-19 .
Numbers 22:32 — said. See note on Numbers 3:40 . Wherefore . . . ? Figure of speech Erotesis. App-6 . behold. Figure of speech Asterismos. App-6 . to withstand = to be an adversary, as in Numbers 22:22 . perverse. Hebrew. 'avil. Occurs only here and Job 16:11 (ungodly).
Deuteronomy 14:19 — creeping thing = swarming creature: i.e. rapidly multiplying. Compare Genesis 1:20 , Genesis 1:21 ; Genesis 7:21 ; Genesis 8:17 ; Genesis 9:7 . Exodus 8:3 .Leviticus 11:29 , &c. is. Hebrew "it [is]". they. A special reading, called Sevir, reads, "it".
Deuteronomy 33:8 — Thummim . . . TJrim. See note on Exodus 28:30 . Numbers 26:55 . Thy holy one = Thy man (' i s h , App-14 .) of loving-kindness, or gracious One = the High Priest who was of the tribe of Levi. See note on Exodus 3:5 .
