(light ye), a liturgical term signifying the ceremony observed in many churches in lighting the candles on solemn festivals. The Accendite is usually sung by the deacon, acolytes, or singers; but at Angers by a musical choir in these words, "Accendite faces lampadarum; eia; psallite, fratres, hora est; canntate Deo; eia, eia, eia'" See Landon, Eccles.
