Bate (Or Batus), John D.D.,

a learned English divine, was born in Northumberland, and educated in arts at York, and in philosophy and divinity at Oxford. He afterwards became prior of the Monastery of the Carmelites at York, where he died, Jan. 26, 1429. Besides a number of works on logic and kindred subjects, he wrote, Questions Concerning the Soul: Of the Assumption of the Virgin: The Praise of Divinity: An Address to the Clergy of Oxford: A Course of Sermons over the Whole Year: and A Preface to the Bible.
