a philosophical episode of the Mahabharata (q.v.), is regarded as exhibiting the most complete view of ancient Oriental mysticism. It consists of a dialogue between the god Krishna and the hero Arjun. This poem is attributed to the 7th or 8th century of our aera, while the Mahabharata, to which this pretends to be an episode, must have been written at least eight hundred years before. The highest state of felicity to which the Bhagavat- Gita points is eternal absorption into Brahma — such a state that when the man dies he will never be born again into any form on earth.
