Boyd, Robert (2), D.D.,

a Baptist minister, was born at Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland, Aug. 24, 1816, and was reared in the Presbyterian Church, of which he became a member at the age of fifteen. Subsequently he became a Baptist. He removed to America in 1843, and became pastor of a Church at Brockville. Canada. After serving churches in London and Hamilton, Canada, he removed, in 1854, to Waterville, Wis., where,. for a time, he resided on a farm. Afterwards he was a pastor in Waukesha, Mich., and. of the Edina Place Church, Chicago. An attack of paralysis, in 1863, obliged him to retire from the Church in Chicago, and he once more took up his residence in Waukesha. For four years he preached from the pulpit to which he had to be carried, and where he sat in his chair while addressing his congregation. He was for twelve years an invalid, but during this long period his fertile pen was constantly busy. Among the works which he wrote during this time were,: Glad Tidings, None but Christ, Grace and Truth, The Good Shepherd, Lectures to Young Converts, etc. He died at his residence in Waukesha, Aug. 1, 1879.
