an English divine, was born at Northampton, March 24, 1794. He received a careful religious training, was educated at Queen's College, Cambridge, took holy orders in 1817, and entered upon his first curacy at Gosfield, Essex. He was presented to the living of Old Newton, Suffolk, in 1823, where he wrote his Christian Ministry and Exposition on the Proverbs. In 1849 he accepted the living of Melcombe Regius, and in 1855 that of Hinton Martell, Dorsetshire, where he spent the remainder of his life, writing his Exposition on Ecclesiastes. He died April 2, 1869. Mr. Bridges was characterized by great spirituality of mind, deep and accurate knowledge of Scripture, retentiveness of memory, and singular aptitude.
