Campbell, William (1), D.D.,

an Irish Presbyterian divine of the last century, published a Sermon (Belfast, 1774): Vindication of the Presbyterians in Ireland (3d ed. 1786): .Examination of the Bishop of (Cloyne's Defence of his Principles (1788). See Allibone, Dict. of Brit. and Amer. Authors, s.v. a Universalist minister, was born at or near Brownsville, Fayette Co., Pa., Nov. 21, 1781; He moved to Gallia County, O., in 1797; joined the Halcyon (a Partialist). Church in 1802:, and subsequently united with the Universalists, and became a preacher of that faith. He died at Wilkesville, Vinton Co., O., March 16,1870. See Universalist.
