a learned Spaniard, was born at Toledo in 1525. He taught at Salamanca, was appointed canon of Seville by Gregory. XIII, and was charged by the same pope with revising the Bible, the writings of the fathers, and the decretal of Gratian. Chacon commented upon a large number of sacred and profane writers, and was admired by many of his contemporaries for his learning. He died at Rome, Oct. 4, 1581. His works were not published until after his leath. His principal writings are, Calendarii Veteris Explanatio (Antwerp, 1586): Opuscula, containing rchsaeological treatises (Rome, 1586; also in Grevii Thesaur.): De Triclinio Romano (ibid. 1588).
