Cheminais (De Maontaigu), Timoleon,
a celebrated French preacher, was born at Paris, Jan. 3, 1652., In 1667 he entered the society of the Jesuits, afterwards taught classical literature and rhetoric at Orleans, and became one of the most popular pulpit orators of his time in Paris. He died Sept. 15, 1689, leaving, Sentiments de Piet' (Paris, 1691, 1734, 1736, 12mo). His Sermons were published by Bretonneau, another preacher of note (ibid. 1690, 2 vols. 12mo, and often since).
