an ingenious French sculptor, was born at Lyons, January 9, 1658. He studied at Paris under his uncle, Coysevox, and carried off the grand prize of the Royal Academy at the age of twenty-three; then he went to Rome and studied the works of Michael Angelo. In 1693 he was received into the Academy at Paris. The following are some of his works: The Descent from the Cross, and the statue of St. Denis, in the Church of Notre Dame.
