an English Congregational minister, was born in Manchester, April 11, 1804. He was converted in youth, and in due time, after a preparation for village preaching, being recommended to the London Missionary Society, was sent to Madagascar as an artisan missionary. Soon after his arrival Mr. Cummins was compelled to leave, in, consequence of the death of king Radama, and the accession of queen Ranavalona to the throne. Returning to England, he settled at Smallbridge, and afterwards successively at Blackpool, Holbeck, Kirkheaton, and Stubbin-Elsecar, where he labored fourteen years, and then retired to Sheffield, where he died, May 29, 1872.
