a Lutheran theologian and hymn-writer of Germany, was born Aug. 29, 1510, at Cdslin, in Pomerania. He studied at Wittenberg, was in 1537 called to Hamburg, in 1547 to Stralsund, in 1549 to Greifswalde, and in 1556 to Wismar, where he died, January 25, 1562.
