a reputable French painter, was born at Luneville, December 13, 1709, instructed in the school of Claude Charles, and after spending some time there went to Italy, where he remained eight years studying the works of the great masters. There are many of his works at Metz, Verdun, and other cities of Lorraine. His Descent from the Cross, in one of the churches at Natncy, is considered his best production.
