a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born August 29, 1746. He studied at Tubingen, was in 1769 vicar, in 1777 preacher, at Stuttgart, and died December 10, 1803. He published, Uebung der Gottseligqkeit in heiligen Betrachtungen und Liedern (Stuttgart, 1776): — Beitrag zur Geschichte der Kirchenlieder (1784), and composed some hymns, which are still in use.
