Herrad of Landsperg
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
or an abbess of Hohenburg, or Odilienberg, an old, celebrated monastery, said to have been founded by duke Ethicot, whose daughter Odilia was the first abbess. Herrad succeeded the abbess Relindis in 1167, and died July: 25, 1195. She is said to have composed the Hortus Deliciarum, a work containing contributions to Biblical history and to the entire field of theology. A copy of the Hortus, preserved at the Strasburg library, was destroyed, with other precious documents, at the bombardment of that city, August 24, 1870.
