a Presbyterian minister, was born near Mercer, Pennsylvania, January 8, 1808. He graduated from Jefferson College in 1831, and studied two years at Princeton Theological Seminary. In 1835 he was ordained pastor at Greenwich, N.J.; in 1841 became professor of belles-lettres in Lafayette College; in 1848 pastor of the F Street Church, Washington, D.C.; in 1853 at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania; in 1860 chaplain at Annapolis, Maryland; in 1866 pastor of the North Church, Chicago, Illinois, and in the same year at Newcastle, Pennsylvania. He died at Martinsburg, West Virginia, April 22, 1880. Dr. Junkin was an eloquent and successful preacher, and a ready writer, being the author of several valuable books, among which was one entitled The Oath a Divine Ordinance, and an Element of the Social Constitution (N.Y. 1845, 12mo).
