a Presbyterian: minister, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; June 25, 1821. He graduated from Lafayette College in 1846, and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1849; was licensed by the Presbytery of Philadelphia, and was ordained an evangelist by the same presbytery, November 13, 1850, but was never settled as a pastor. In 1849 he began to labor on the island of St. Thomas as a chaplain,. under the appointment of the Seaman's Friend Society; in 1859 as chaplain at St. Louis; in 1863 was missionary in south-western Missouri, where he organized a church at Linn Creek. He afterwards resided, in infirm health,. at Carlinville, Ill. The last two years of his life we respent near Richmond, Virginia. He died at Waverly Station, November 19, 1880. See Necrol.
