Van Der Sloot, Fredrick William
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
or a minister of the German Reformed Church, was born in Dessau, Germany, Nov. 11, 1773. His father was a minister. Educated in Europe, he emigrated to the United States in 1801. Licensed and ordained in 1802, he took charge of seven congregations in Lehigh and Northampton counties, Pa. In 1811 he was called to Germantown, near Philadelphia. In 1813 he removed to New Goshenhoppen, Montgomery Co. In 1818 he was called to Philadelphia, where he founded Salem's German Reformed Church. In 1824 he removed to Rockingham County, Va., where he served ten congregations. In 1827 he became pastor of a charge in York and Adams counties, Pa., which he served until his death, Dec. 14, 1831. He was a fine linguist, a good preacher, and also a poet, many of his poems having been published. Two of his sons entered the ministry.
