a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born May 1, 1714, at Dantzic. From 1735 to 1739 he studied at Leipsic, and his dissertation, published in 1739, De Fontibus Veritatis Sacrae in Rivulis Profanis Sparsae ad Lactant. Lib. VII, Cap. 7, gave him the privilege of lecturing on philosophy. In 1740, having presented another dissertation, De Platonica Animornum Immortalitatea he was appointed adjunct to the philosophical faculty. Three years later he was made professor extraordinary, and in 1744 professor in ordinary of theology, his dissertation for this occasion having been De Theologis Tridentinis, alia Loquentibus, alia Sentientibus. Shortly afterwards he was made doctor of theology, and died Oct. 18, 1774. Besides the writings already mentioned, he published, De Christo in A Morte Gloriosissimo (Vitebergae, 1755): De Discrimine Gratic Divine sine Iferito contra Merituwn (ibid. 1757): Jobus, Resurrectionis non Typus, sed Professor (ibid. 1759). His other writings are enumerated in Fü rst, Bibl. Jud. 3, 497; Doring, Die Gelehrten Theologen Deutschlands, 4:672 sq. (B. P.)
