Wolflein (Lat. Lupulus), Heinrich

a Swiss hagiographer, was born about 1470 at Berne. He was director of the gymnasium at his native place, and canon of the chapter. The doctrines of Zwingli, who had been his disciple, he corrupted. He spread with ardor the religious reform, married in 1524, was appointed in 1527 secretary of the consistory, and died in 1532. Wolflein contributed much towards reviving the tone of literature among his compatriots. He wrote, Vita Nicolai Subsiluani (1501); it was republished by J. Eichhorn, under the title, Historia F. Nicolai de Saxo (Fribourg, 1608; Constance, 1631): Officium S. Vincentii Martyris (Basle, 1517). See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v.
