(Heb. Beor', בְּעוֹר, a torch; Sept. Βεώρ ), the name of two men. (See BALAAM).
1. The father of Bela (q.v.), one of the kings of Edom (Genesis 36:32; 1 Chronicles 1:43). B.C. apparently ante 1618.
2. The father of Balaam, the backsliding prophet (Numbers 22:5; Numbers 24:3; Numbers 24:15; Numbers 31:8; Joshua 13:22; Joshua 24:9; Micah 6:5; Deuteronomy 23:4). In 2 Peter 2:15, he is called BOSOR (See BOSOR) (q.v.). B.C. ante 1618.
