Vocabulary of the Greek NT

κράζω occurs quater in the general sense of ";cry out"; in a late i/B.C. petition, P Oxy IV, 717, e.g..1 ἐκβοῶντος δέ μου καὶ κράζοντος τὰ τοσαῦτα : cf. P Fay 119.33 (c. A.D. 100) ἐπὶ κράζει Πᾶσις εἵνα μὴ εἰς ψωμὶν (for ψωμίον) γένηται διὰ τὼ ὕδωρ, ";for Pasis is crying out that we must not allow it (sc. manure) to be dissolved by the water"; (Edd.), BGU III. 816.15 (iii/A.D.) ἐπὶ κράσι (l. ἐπεὶ κράζει) Ἀπᾶς Εὐαγγέλος (l. ου) περὶ τοῦ χαλκοῦ. For κέκραγα as a perfect with present force in John 1:15 see Proleg. p. 147, and to the LXX exx. there adduced add Menandrea p. 44.11 τὸ παιδίον κεκραγός, ";the baby screaming,"; and so ib. 45.24. The verb, which survives in MGr, is discussed by Abbott Joh. Gr. P. 348.
