Then those who feared Yahweh spoke to one another, and Yahweh gave heed and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear Yahweh and who think upon His name.

"And they will be Mine," says Yahweh of hosts, "on the day that I prepare My own treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him."

Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac was the father of Jacob, and Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.

And she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

"Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which translated means, "God with us."

And Joseph got up from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife,

but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.

"Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him."

And after coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord *appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him."

So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and departed for Egypt.

"Get up, take the Child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel; for those who sought the Child's life are dead."

But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Then after being warned by God in a dream, he departed for the district of Galilee,

For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet, saying,"The voice of one crying in the wilderness,‘Make ready the way of the Lord,Make His paths straight!'"

Now John himself had a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

"As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
