Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? Nobody is good except for one - God.

Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it will be for those who have wealth to get into the kingdom of God!"Matthew 19:23; Luke 18:24;">[xr]

The disciples were startled by these words, but Jesus said to them again, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in their wealthfor those who trust in their wealth">[fn] to get into the kingdom of God!Job 1:31:24; Psalm 52:7; 62:10; 1 Timothy 6:17;">[xr]

It is easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into the kingdom of God."

Jesus looked at them intently and said, "For humans it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God."Jeremiah 32:17; Matthew 19:26; Luke 1:37;">[xr]

Jesus said to them, "Have faith in God!

They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere. You don't favor any individual, for you pay no attention to external appearance. Rather, you teach the way of God truthfully. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them or should we not?"

So Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were utterly amazed at him.

As for the dead being raised, haven't you read in the book of Moses, in the story about the bush, how God said, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?Exodus 3:6">[fn]Exodus 3:6;">[xr]

He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"

Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord,Deuteronomy 6:4; Luke 10:27;">[xr]

and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'Deuteronomy 6:4-5">[fn]

When Jesus saw how wisely the manhe">[fn] answered, he told him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." After that, no one dared to ask him another question.Matthew 22:46;">[xr]

For those days will be a time of suffering,tribulation">[fn] a kind that has not happened from the beginning of the creation that God made until now and certainly will never happen again.Daniel 9:26; 12:1; Joel 2:2; Matthew 24:21;">[xr]

Truly I tell you, I will never again drink the product of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."

At three o'clockthe ninth hour">[fn] Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, eloi, lema sabachthani?", which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"Psalm 22:1">[fn]Psalm 21:1; Matthew 27:46;">[xr]

When the centurion[fn] who stood facing Jesushim">[fn] saw how he had cried out and breathed his last,saw how he had breathed his last">[fn] he said, "This man certainly was the Son of God!"Matthew 27:54; Luke 23:46;">[xr]

Joseph of Arimathea, a highly respected member of the Council,Sanhedrin">[fn] who was waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.Luke 2:25,38;">[xr]

Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, and they lived blamelessly according to all of the commandments and regulations of the Lord.Genesis 7:1; 17:1; 1 Kings 9:4; 2 Kings 20:3; Job 1:1:1; Acts 23:1; 24:16; Philippians 3:6;">[xr]
