To one man he gave five talents,[fn] to another two, and to another one, based on their ability. Then he went on his trip.Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 12:7,11, 29; Ephesians 4:11;">[xr]

But the one who received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master's money.

His master said to him, 'Well done, good and trustworthy servant! Since you have been trustworthy with a small amount, I will put you in charge of a large amount. Come and share your master's joy!'Matthew 24:34,46-47; Luke 12:44; 22:29-30; 2 Timothy 2:12; Hebrews 12:2; 1 Peter 1:8;">[xr]

He will put the sheep on his right but the goats on his left.

When Jesus had finished saying all these things,finished all these sayings">[fn] he told his disciples,

a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume and poured it on his head while he sat at the table.

He replied, "The man who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.Psalm 41:9; Luke 22:21; John 13:18;">[xr]

Going on a little farther, he fell on his face and prayed, "O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not what I want but what you want."Matthew 20:22; Mark 14:36; Luke 22:42; John 5:30; 6:38; 12:27; Philippians 2:8; Hebrews 5:7;">[xr]

Suddenly, one of the men with Jesus reached out his hand, drew his sword, and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his ear.John 18:10;">[xr]

Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Look, you yourselves have just heard the blasphemy!2 Kings 18:37; 19:1;">[xr]

Then they spit in his face and hit him. Some slapped him,Isaiah 50:6; 53:3; Matthew 27:30; Luke 22:63; John 19:3;">[xr]

While he was sitting on the judge's seat, his wife sent him a message.sent him">[fn] It said, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I have suffered terribly because of a dream about him."

Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was about to break out instead. So he took some water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man'sthis righteous man's">[fn] blood. You must see to that yourselves."Deuteronomy 21:6;">[xr]
