(Hebrews Azgad', עִזְגָּד, strong in fortune; Sept. Ἀσγάδ, Ἀζγάδ), the head of one of the families of the Israelites whose descendants, to the number of 1222 persons, returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:12; Nehemiah 7:17), and 111 males afterward with Ezra (Ezra 8:12; Nehemiah 10:15). B.C. ante 536.
