Greene, Thomas
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
or bishop of Ely, was born at Norwich in 1658, and educated at Benedict College, Cambridge, of which he obtained a scholarship, and in 1680 a fellowship. After numerous preferments he obtained the vicarage of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields,Westminster, in 1716. This he held in commendam with the bishopric of Norwich, to which he was consecrated October 8, 1721, but was thence translated to Ely, September 24, 1723. George I, soon after his accession, appointed him one of his domestic chaplains. He died in 1738. He wrote,
