Brorda (Also Called Hildegils),
was a Mercian alderman, whose death in 799 is recorded by Simeon of Durham. He attested the charters of Offa from 764 to 795, and, after the death of Offa, those of Ecgfrith and Kenulf down to 798. He is. probably the person who is mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as a benefactor of Medeshamstede in 777, although the passage is an interpolation, and the monastery of which he was the patron was Woking, in Surrey.
