way·yiq·qā·ḇə·ṣū

וַיִּקָּבְצ֤וּ

the Israelites

and lamented

way·yis·pə·ḏū-

וַיִּסְפְּדוּ־

and buried him

way·yiq·bə·ru·hū

וַיִּקְבְּרֻ֥הוּ

in his house

and went down

the wilderness

[there was] And a man

and whose possessions [were]

ū·ma·‘ă·śê·hū

וּמַעֲשֵׂ֣הוּ

ḇak·kar·mel,

he had three

and a thousand

bak·kar·mel.

בַּכַּרְמֶֽל׃

Now the name

of the man [was]

and the name

’ă·ḇi·ḡā·yil;

[she was] and a women

wə·hā·’iš·šāh

וְהָאִשָּׁ֤ה

understanding

of a beautiful

but the man [was]

in [his] dealings

ma·‘ă·lā·lîm

וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע

in the wilderness

bam·miḏ·bār;

בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר

And sent out

וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח

to the young men

lan·nə·‘ā·rîm,

לַנְּעָרִ֗ים

ū·šə·’el·tem-

וּשְׁאֶלְתֶּם־

lə·šā·lō·wm.

and shall you say

wa·’ă·mar·tem

וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֥ם

to him who lives

and both to you

[in prosperity] Peace [are]

to your house [are]

I have heard

שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי

you have shearers

your shepherds

heḵ·lam·nūm,

הֶכְלַמְנ֗וּם

was there aught

bak·kar·mel.

בַּכַּרְמֶֽל׃

your young men

and they will show

wə·yag·gî·ḏū

וְיַגִּ֣ידוּ

and find you

wə·yim·ṣə·’ū

וְיִמְצְא֨וּ

Why let the young men

han·nə·‘ā·rîm

הַנְּעָרִ֥ים

in your eyes

bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā,

בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ

for we have come

to your hand

to your servants

la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā,

לַעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ

and to your son

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙

of when David

and they spoke

way·ḏab·bə·rū

וַיְדַבְּר֧וּ

according to all

had·də·ḇā·rîm

הַדְּבָרִ֥ים

way·yā·nū·ḥū.

וַיָּנֽוּחוּ׃

And answered

that break away

ham·miṯ·pā·rə·ṣîm,

הַמִּתְפָּ֣רְצִ֔ים

and Shall I then take

wə·lā·qaḥ·tî

וְלָקַחְתִּ֤י

I have killed

for my shearers

lə·ḡō·zə·zāy;

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

וְנָֽתַתִּי֙

la·’ă·nā·šîm,

לַֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים

way·ya·hap̄·ḵū

וַיַּהַפְכ֥וּ

and went again

way·yā·šu·ḇū

וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙

way·yā·ḇō·’ū,

way·yag·gi·ḏū

וַיַּגִּ֣דוּ

had·də·ḇā·rîm

הַדְּבָרִ֥ים

la·’ă·nā·šāw

לַאֲנָשָׁ֜יו

And they girded on

way·yaḥ·gə·rū

וַֽיַּחְגְּרוּ֙

and girded on

וַיַּחְגֹּ֥ר

and there went up

way·ya·‘ă·lū

וַֽיַּעֲל֣וּ ׀

כְּאַרְבַּ֤ע

and two hundred

wə·la·’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil

וְלַאֲבִיגַ֙יִל֙

of the young men

mê·han·nə·‘ā·rîm

מֵהַנְּעָרִ֖ים

מַלְאָכִ֧ים ׀

from the wilderness

mê·ham·miḏ·bār

מֵֽהַמִּדְבָּ֛ר

and he railed

wə·hā·’ă·nā·šîm,

וְהָ֣אֲנָשִׁ֔ים

hā·ḵə·lam·nū

הָכְלַ֙מְנוּ֙

we were conversant

hiṯ·hal·laḵ·nū

הִתְהַלַּ֣כְנוּ

when we were

bih·yō·w·ṯê·nū

בִּֽהְיוֹתֵ֖נוּ

in the fields

בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃

They were a wall

hĕ·yō·w·ṯê·nū

therefore know

and consider

is determined

his household

[is such] a son

bə·lî·ya·‘al,

בְּלִיַּ֔עַל

[a man] that cannot speak

and made haste

wat·tə·ma·hêr

[’ă·ḇō·w·ḡa·yil

Then Abigail

(’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil

(אֲבִיגַ֡יִל

[‘ă·śā·wō·wṯ

ready dressed

[grain] and a hundred

clusters of raisins

and two hundred

[them] donkeys

ha·ḥă·mō·rîm.

הַחֲמֹרִֽים׃

And she said

to her young

lin·‘ā·re·hā

לִנְעָרֶ֙יהָ֙

on before me

’a·ḥă·rê·ḵem

and her husband

וּלְאִישָׁ֥הּ

do But she told

[so as] rode

ha·ḥă·mō·wr,

that she came down

wə·yō·re·ḏeṯ

by the hidden

wa·’ă·nā·šāw,

וַאֲנָשָׁ֔יו

לִקְרָאתָ֑הּ

wat·tip̄·gōš

וַתִּפְגֹּ֖שׁ

שָׁמַ֜רְתִּי

[fellow] has in the wilderness

bam·miḏ·bār,

בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר

do was missed

so that nothing

and he has requited

to the enemies

[pertain] to him by

the morning light

any that urinates

against the wall

’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil

אֲבִיגַ֙יִל֙

and she hurried

wat·tə·ma·hêr

ha·ḥă·mō·wr;

wat·tiš·ta·ḥū

וַתִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ

herself to the ground

[let this] me iniquity

ū·ṯə·ḏab·ber-

וּֽתְדַבֶּר־

I pray [are]

and let your handmaid

in your audience

bə·’ā·zə·ne·ḵā,

בְּאָזְנֶ֔יךָ

of your handmaid

’ă·mā·ṯe·ḵā.

hab·bə·lî·ya·‘al

הַבְּלִיַּ֨עַל

[even] Nabal

[is] his name

[is] your handmaid

’ă·mā·ṯə·ḵā,

the young men

you did send

šā·lā·ḥə·tā.

שָׁלָֽחְתָּ׃

[as] the LORD

[as] and your soul

has withheld

you from coming

[shed] to blood

and from avenging

wə·hō·wō·šê·a‘

yourself with your own hand

let your enemies

’ō·yə·ḇe·ḵā,

and they who seek

wə·ham·ḇaq·šîm

וְהַֽמְבַקְשִׁ֥ים

hab·bə·rā·ḵāh

your handmaid

šip̄·ḥā·ṯə·ḵā

שִׁפְחָתְךָ֖

and let it even be given

wə·nit·tə·nāh

to the young

lan·nə·‘ā·rîm,

לַנְּעָרִ֔ים

ham·miṯ·hal·lə·ḵîm

הַמִּֽתְהַלְּכִ֖ים

the trespass

of your handmaid

’ă·mā·ṯe·ḵā;

will certainly

for the LORD

mil·ḥă·mō·wṯ

do been found

[all] in you your days

mî·yā·me·ḵā.

מִיָּמֶֽיךָ׃

and is risen

lir·ḏā·p̄ə·ḵā,

you and to seek

ū·lə·ḇaq·qêš

וּלְבַקֵּ֖שׁ

but shall be

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

shall be bound

in the bundle

’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā,

of your enemies them

shall he sling out

yə·qal·lə·‘en·nāh,

יְקַלְּעֶ֔נָּה

of the middle

out as from the hollow

and it shall come to pass

shall have done

according to all

he has spoken

haṭ·ṭō·w·ḇāh

you and shall have appointed you

wə·ṣiw·wə·ḵā

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

ū·lə·miḵ·šō·wl

וּלְמִכְשׁ֨וֹל

and either that you have shed

וְלִשְׁפָּךְ־

and has avenged

ū·lə·hō·wō·šî·a‘

וּלְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ

or that my lord

but shall have dealt well

when the LORD

with my lord

then remember

wə·zā·ḵar·tā

וְזָכַרְתָּ֖

your handmaid

’ă·mā·ṯe·ḵā.

la·’ă·ḇî·ḡal;

Blessed [are]

לִקְרָאתִֽי׃

and blessed [are]

from bloodshed

and from avenging

myself with my own hand

For in very deed

[as] the LORD

has kept me back

mə·nā·‘a·nî,

from hurting

you had hurried

[wat·tā·ḇō·ṯî

[וַתָּבֹאתִי

there had not

do been left

any that urinates

against the wall

from her hand

[that] she had brought

to your house

I have listened

שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי

to your voice

ḇə·qō·w·lêḵ,

and have accepted

’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil

אֲבִיגַ֣יִל ׀

he held a feast

in his house

like the feast

כְּמִשְׁתֵּ֣ה

Why she told

But it came to pass

in the morning

was gone out

when the wine

and had told

wat·tag·geḏ-

had·də·ḇā·rîm

הַדְּבָרִ֖ים

בְּקִרְבּ֔וֹ

[as] a stone

And it came to pass

ka·‘ă·śe·reṯ

כַּעֲשֶׂ֣רֶת

way·yig·gōp̄

[after] that the LORD

that he died

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע

Blessed [are]

of my reproach

from the hand

the wickedness

has returned

for the LORD

on his own head

וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח

ba·’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil,

בַּאֲבִיגַ֔יִל

לְקַחְתָּ֥הּ

to him to wife

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

the servants

’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil

hak·kar·me·lāh;

הַכַּרְמֶ֑לָה

and they spoke

way·ḏab·bə·rū

וַיְדַבְּר֤וּ

לְקַחְתֵּ֥ךְ

to him to wife

And she arose

wat·tiš·ta·ḥū

וַתִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ

[her] on face

to the earth

[let] your handmaid [are]

lə·šip̄·ḥāh,

of the servants

wat·tə·ma·hêr

’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil,

וַתִּרְכַּב֙

ha·ḥă·mō·wr,

and with five

na·‘ă·rō·ṯe·hā,

נַעֲרֹתֶ֔יהָ

of hers that went

ha·hō·lə·ḵō·wṯ

and she went

the messengers

’ă·ḥî·nō·‘am

mî·yiz·rə·‘el;

מִֽיִּזְרְעֶ֑אל

and they were

wat·tih·ye·nā

וַתִּהְיֶ֛יןָ

of them his wives

his daughter

that [was] of Gallim

mig·gal·lîm.
