the families

miš·pə·ḥō·wṯ

מִשְׁפְּח֣וֹת

in the wilderness

bam·miḏ·bār,

בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר

[which were] left

of the sword

lə·har·gî·‘ōw

לְהַרְגִּיע֖וֹ

[even] Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

to him from afar

has appeared

and love you

wə·’a·hă·ḇaṯ

with an everlasting

I have loved

אֲהַבְתִּ֔יךְ

have I drawn

מְשַׁכְתִּ֥יךְ

with covenant loyalty

I will build

you and you shall be build

וְֽנִבְנֵ֔ית

you shall again

with your tabrets

and shall go forth

to the dances

of the merrymakers

mə·śa·ḥă·qîm.

מְשַׂחֲקִֽים׃

On the hills

šō·mə·rō·wn;

the planters

[them] and shall eat as common things

wə·ḥil·lê·lū.

וְחִלֵּֽלוּ׃

there shall be

[that] the watchmen

On the hills

’ep̄·rā·yim;

you and let us go up

wə·na·‘ă·leh

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū.

אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ

with gladness

among the chief

of the nations

hag·gō·w·yim;

הַשְׁמִ֤יעוּ

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

I will bring

country them

from the north

and gather them

wə·qib·baṣ·tîm

וְקִבַּצְתִּים֮

from the coasts

mî·yar·kə·ṯê-

מִיַּרְכְּתֵי־

of the earth

with them the blind

and the lame

ū·p̄is·sê·aḥ,

the women with child

and her that travails with child

wə·yō·le·ḏeṯ

shall return

With weeping

They shall come

and with supplications

ū·ḇə·ṯa·ḥă·nū·nîm

וּֽבְתַחֲנוּנִים֮

I will cause them to walk

in a straight

yik·kā·šə·lū

יִכָּשְׁל֖וּ

lə·yiś·rā·’êl

לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙

wə·’ep̄·ra·yim

וְאֶפְרַ֖יִם

[is] my firstborn

O you nations

wə·hag·gî·ḏū

וְהַגִּ֥ידוּ

in the coastlands

mim·mer·ḥāq;

he who scattered

will gather him

yə·qab·bə·ṣen·nū,

יְקַבְּצֶ֔נּוּ

and keep him

as a shepherd

[doth] his flock

has redeemed

For the LORD

and ransomed him

from the hand

[him that was] of stronger him

from the hand

Therefore they shall come

wə·rin·nə·nū

on the height

and shall flow together

the goodness

of the flock

and of the herd

and shall be

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

as a watered

lə·ḏa·’ă·ḇāh

shall rejoice

in the dance

bə·mā·ḥō·wl,

and both young men

for I will turn

wə·hā·p̄aḵ·tî

וְהָפַכְתִּ֨י

their mourning

and will comfort them

wə·ni·ḥam·tîm,

וְנִ֣חַמְתִּ֔ים

and make them rejoice

wə·śim·maḥ·tîm

וְשִׂמַּחְתִּ֖ים

for their sorrow

mî·ḡō·w·nām.

And I will satiate

wə·riw·wê·ṯî

וְרִוֵּיתִ֛י

of the priests

hak·kō·hă·nîm

הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים

with fatness

and my people

shall be satisfied with

יִשְׂבָּ֖עוּ

תַמְרוּרִ֔ים

to be comforted

lə·hin·nā·ḥêm

from weeping

and your eyes

wə·‘ê·na·yiḵ

וְעֵינַ֖יִךְ

mid·dim·‘āh;

For your work

lip̄·‘ul·lā·ṯêḵ

לִפְעֻלָּתֵךְ֙

and they shall come again

from the land

of the enemy

And there is

for your future

lə·’a·ḥă·rî·ṯêḵ

לְאַחֲרִיתֵ֖ךְ

that shall come again

your children

to their own territory

לִגְבוּלָֽם׃

I have surely

שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי

bemoaning himself

miṯ·nō·w·ḏêḏ,

[thus] You have chastised me

yis·sar·ta·nî

יִסַּרְתַּ֙נִי֙

and I was chastised

wā·’iw·wā·sêr,

וָֽאִוָּסֵ֔ר

[to the yoke] turn

הֲשִׁיבֵ֣נִי

and I shall be turned

wə·’ā·šū·ḇāh,

וְאָשׁ֔וּבָה

[are] the LORD

I was turned

I was instructed

hiw·wā·ḏə·‘î,

הִוָּ֣דְעִ֔י

I was ashamed

נִכְלַ֔מְתִּי

the reproach

[is] Ephraim

’ep̄·ra·yim,

ša·‘ă·šu·‘îm,

שַׁעֲשֻׁעִ֔ים

remember him

’ez·kə·ren·nū

אֶזְכְּרֶ֖נּוּ

are troubled

I will surely

’ăra·ḥă·men·nū

אֲ‍ֽרַחֲמֶ֖נּוּ

תַּמְרוּרִ֔ים

to the highway

לַֽמְסִלָּ֖ה

[even] The way

[hā·lā·ḵə·tî

and turn again

will you go about

tiṯ·ḥam·mā·qîn,

תִּתְחַמָּקִ֔ין

O you backsliding

haš·šō·w·ḇê·ḇāh;

הַשּֽׁוֹבֵבָ֑ה

in the earth

they shall use

when in the cities

ū·ḇə·‘ā·rāw,

I shall bring again

their captivity

yə·ḇā·reḵ·ḵā

The LORD you

O dwelling place

And there shall dwell

thereof together

[that] and they go forth

I have satiated

I have replenished

and my sleep

that I will sow

wə·zā·ra‘·tî,

וְזָרַעְתִּ֗י

with the offspring

and with the offspring

And it shall come to pass

[that] I have watched

שָׁקַ֣דְתִּי

and to break down

wə·lin·ṯō·wṣ

and to throw down

wə·la·hă·rōs

and to destroy

ū·lə·ha·’ă·ḇîḏ

וּלְהַאֲבִ֣יד

and to afflict

ū·lə·hā·rê·a‘;

will I watch

and to plant

wə·lin·ṭō·w·a‘

וְלִנְט֖וֹעַ

shall they say

a sour grape

of the children

are set on edge

תִּקְהֶֽינָה׃

for his own iniquity

ba·‘ă·wō·nōw

the sour grape

shall be set on edge

תִּקְהֶ֥ינָה

that I will make

wə·ḵā·rat·tî,

according to the covenant

their fathers

’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām,

[that] I took them

to bring them

lə·hō·w·ṣî·’ām

לְהוֹצִיאָ֖ם

out of the land

and although I

was a husband

בָּעַ֥לְתִּי

[shall be] the covenant

in their inward parts

בְּקִרְבָּ֔ם

their hearts

’eḵ·tă·ḇen·nāh;

אֶכְתֲּבֶ֑נָּה

they shall teach

yə·lam·mə·ḏū

his neighbor

and every man

they will all

from the least

lə·miq·ṭan·nām

לְמִקְטַנָּ֤ם

and of them to

the greatest

I will forgive

their iniquity

la·‘ă·wō·nām,

and their sin

ū·lə·ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯām

וּלְחַטָּאתָ֖ם

do I will remember

the judgments

and of the stars

wə·ḵō·w·ḵā·ḇîm

וְכוֹכָבִ֖ים

that divides

thereof roar

way·ye·hĕ·mū

when the waves

[is] his name

from before me

mil·lə·p̄ā·nay

[then] the offspring

יִשְׁבְּת֗וּ

can be measured

mil·ma‘·lāh,

מִלְמַ֔עְלָה

and searched out

wə·yê·ḥā·qə·rū

וְיֵחָקְר֥וּ

the foundations

of the earth

the offspring

they have done

that shall be build

wə·niḇ·nə·ṯāh

וְנִבְנְתָ֤ה

from the Tower

מִמִּגְדַּ֥ל

of the corner

hap·pin·nāh.

and go forth

the measuring

over against

and shall edge about

And the whole

of the dead bodies

hap·pə·ḡā·rîm

הַפְּגָרִ֣ים ׀

and of the ashes

wə·had·de·šen

וְהַדֶּ֡שֶׁן

[haš·šə·rê·mō·wṯ

[הַשְּׁרֵמֹות

(haš·šə·ḏê·mō·wṯ

(הַשְּׁדֵמֹות֩

of the horse

toward the east

[shall be] holy

do be plucked up

lə·‘ō·w·lām.
