(a) with hostile intent (Thuc., i, 49, Genesis 31:36 al.);

Vocabulary of the Greek NT

This perfective verb is confined in the NT to Mark 1:36, where it should be translated ";pursue after,"; ";hunt down,"; and not simply ";follow after"; (AV, RV) : see Proleg. p. 116 and cf. the LXX usage in Psa. 17:38 [MT Psalms 18:38], Psalms 34:6 [MT Psalms 35:6] al., and in Pss. Sol. 15:9. The same idea of ";force"; underlies Genesis 33:13, where the verb = ";overdrive.";
