1 bare place, or space: construct מִמַּעֲרִהגָּֿ֑בַע Judges 20:33 bare (open) space of Geba' (si vera 1.; but see II. מַעֲרָב); כְּמַעַראִֿישׁ 1 Kings 7:36 according to the clear space on each (plate, see לוּחַ).
2 suffix מַעְרֵח Nahum 3:5 figurative of Nineveh ( pudenda exposed in shameful punishment; compare עֶרְוָה).
מַעַר m. for מַעֲרֶה (from the root עָרָה)
(1) nakedness, pudenda, i.q. עֶרְוָה Nahum 3:5.
(2) a naked space, i.e. void space. 1 Kings 7:36, כְּמַעַד אִישׁ “for the space of each one” (of the borders).
I. מַעֲרָב m. (from the root עָרַב No. I. 2) articles of merchandize, which are interchanged, bartered. Ezekiel 27:9, 27 Ezekiel 27:27, עֹרְבֵי מַעֲבָרֵךְ “those who exchange thy merchandize;” Ezekiel 27:13, 17 Ezekiel 27:17, 19 Ezekiel 27:19, 27 Ezekiel 27:27(beginning), 33 Ezekiel 27:33, 34 Ezekiel 27:34. [In some of its occurrences it appears to mean “a fair or market.” Thes.]
II. מַעֲרָב m. (from the root עָרַב No. II), the West, the part where the sun sets, Psalms 75:7, 103:12 107:3 Isaiah 43:5. [Found also with ה local, westward, 1 Chronicles 26:30 and with prefix ל on the west, 2 Chronicles 32:30.]
