פָּרַשׂ fut. יִפְרשֹׁ.
(1) i.q. פָּרַס to break, to break in pieces, Micah 3:3. פָּרַשֹׂ לֶתֶם לְ to break (to give) bread to any one, Lamentations 4:4.
(2) to expand, to spread out (which comes from the idea of being broken apart and arranged, compare פָּרַץ ausfpreizen) [“Ch. פְּרַשֹׂ, ܦܪܰܣ id., Arab. فرش to spread upon the ground”], e.g. a garment, Numbers 4:6, a sail, Isaiah 33:23 wings, Exodus 25:20; 1 Kings 8:7 the hands, whether it be to pray (followed by אֶל to any person or thing, Exodus 9:29, 33 1 Kings 8:38 לְ Psalms 44:21), or to give bountifully, followed by לְ of pers. Proverbs 31:20, or to seize, followed by עַל of the thing, Lamentations 1:10. Metaph. Proverbs 13:16, “a fool spreads abroad his folly,” makes it manifest.
(3) to disperse; whence
Niphal, to be dispersed, Ezekiel 17:21.
Piel פֵּרַשׂ Isaiah 25:11, fut. יְפָרֵשׂ to spread out, as the hands in praying to God, Isaiah 1:15, 25:11 65:2 Psalms 143:6. An unusual use is פֵּרְשָׂה בְיָרֶיהָ “to spread forth with the hands,” Lamentations 1:17 (compare תָרַק שִׁנַּיִם and בְּשִׁנַּיִם, הִפְטִיר בְּשָׁפָה).
(2) to disperse, Psalms 68:15; Zechariah 2:10.
