שָׁנָה fut. יִשְׁנֶה (once יִשְׁנֶא Lamentations 4:1).
(1) to repeat, to do the second time; Arab. ثنى; Syr. ܬܢܳܐ (comp. שְׁנַיִם two; שֵׁנִי second). Nehemiah 13:21, אִם תִּשְׁנוּ “if ye do (this) again;” 1 Kings 18:34. Followed by לְ 1 Samuel 26:8, “I will strike him once וְלֹא אֶשְׁנֶה לוֹ and I will not repeat to him,” sc. the blow, i.e. there shall be no need of another stroke. 2 Samuel 20:10 followed by בְּ Proverbs 26:11, “a fool שֹׁנֶה בְאִוַּלְתּוֹ who repeats (or goes on acting) in his folly.” Proverbs 17:9, שֹׁנֶה בְדָבָר “he who repeats in a matter,” i.e. who revives unpleasant things which should be forgotten.
(2) intrans., to be other, diverse from any thing; followed by מִן Esther 1:7, 3:8.
(3) to be changed; especially for the worse, Lam. loc. cit.; used of the mind. Malachi 3:6, “I, Jehovah, do not change.” Part. שֹׁנִים those who change opinion, changeable; used of unfaithful subjects, rebels, who sometimes take one side, sometimes another (compare Jeremiah 2:36), Proverbs 24:21.

Piel, שִׁנָּה (once שִׁנָּא in the Chaldee form, 2 Kings 25:29).
(1) to change; garments, 2 Kings 25:29; Jeremiah 52:33 a promise, Psalms 89:35 justice (i.e. to violate), Proverbs 31:5 also to vary, i.e. often to change (a way), Jeremiah 2:36 to disfigure (the face), Job 14:20.
(2) to transfer to another place, Esther 2:9.
(3) שִׁנָה אֶת־טַעֲמוֹ to deform, i.e. to dissimulate his reason (er verleugnete feinen Verftand), i.e. to feign oneself mad, 1 Samuel 21:14; Psalms 34:1. Syr. ܫܰܢܺܝ ܛܥܡܐ and ellipt. ܫܢܐܳ is, to be mad.
Pual, to be changed (in a good sense), Ecclesiastes 8:1 where יְשֻׁנֶּא is for יְשֻׁנֶּה.
Hithpael, to change oneself, i.e. to change one’s garments, 1 Kings 14:2.

שָׁנָה i.q. Arab. سنى to shine, to be bright, whence שָׁנִי.
שָׁנָה pl. שָׁנִים const. שְׁנֵי, poet. שָׁנוֹת const. שְׁנוֹת f. a year (pr. an iteration, sc. of the course of the sun, or of the changes of seasons, as spring, summer, autumn, winter; compare the Lat. annus, which pr. denotes a circle, Gr. ἐνιαυτός, Arab. حَوْلُ a circle, a year). שָׁנָה שָׁנָה Deuteronomy 14:22 שָׁנָה בְשָׁנָה Deuteronomy 15:20 מִדֵּי שָׁנָה בְשָׁנָה 1 Samuel 7:16, yearly. שְׁנַת שְׁתַּיִם the second year, 2 Kings 14:1 שְׁנַת אַרְבַּע לאח׳ the fourth year of Ahab, 1 Kings 22:41. Sometimes שָׁנָה is repeated, as בִּשְׁנַת שֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה in the six hundredth year, Genesis 7:11, pr. in the (last) year of six hundred years. Plur. שָׁנִים also denotes some years indefinitely, 2 Chronicles 18:2, compare יָמִים, some days. Trop. year is used or annual produce, Joel 2:25.
