A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour has come: but when she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for the joy that a man is born into the world.

And you therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one takes away from you.

These things I have spoken to you in dark sayings: the hour comes, when I shall no more speak to you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of the Father.

These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

I pray for them: I don't pray for the world, but for those whom you have given me; for they are yours:

While I was with them, I kept them in your name which you have given me: and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

But now I come to you; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy made full in themselves.

I don't pray that you should take them from the world, but that you should keep them from the evil [one].

Neither for these only do I pray, but for them also that believe on me through their word;

O righteous Father, the world didn't know you, but I knew you; and these knew that you sent me;

but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.

Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why do you smite me?

They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves didn't enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover.

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then my attendants would fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now my kingdom is not from here.

But you have a custom, that I should release to you one at the passover: do you want therefore that I release to you the King of the Jews?

They cried out therefore again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

and he entered into the Praetorium again, and says to Jesus, Where are you from? But Jesus gave him no answer.

On this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend: every one that makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.

When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment-seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

They therefore cried out, Away with [him], away with [him], crucify him! Pilate says to them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
