For innumerable evils have compassed me about; My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; And my heart has failed me.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: When shall I come and see the face of God?

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And [why] are you disquieted inside me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, my salvation

For they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, Because you were favorable to them.

You are my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob.

For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me.

You make us to turn back from the adversary; And those that hate us take spoil for themselves.

You have made us like sheep [appointed] for food, And have scattered us among the nations.

You sell your people for nothing, And have not increased [your wealth] by their price.

For the voice of him that reproaches and blasphemes, By reason of the enemy and the avenger.

Will not God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

Yes, for your sake we are killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
