Then they said to each other, "Our hearts kept burning within uswithin us">[fn] as he was talking to us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us, didn't they?"

That same hour they got up and went back to Jerusalem and found the eleven and their companions all together.

They kept saying, "The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon!"1 Corinthians 15:5;">[xr]

Then they themselves began to tell what had happened on the road and how he was recognized by them when he broke the bread in pieces.

While they were talking about this, Jesushe">[fn] himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."and said to them, "Peace be with you."">[fn]Mark 16:14; John 20:19; 1 Corinthians 15:5;">[xr]

They were startled and terrified, thinking they were seeing a ghost.Mark 6:49;">[xr]

While they still could not believe it for joy and were full of amazement, he said to them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"Genesis 45:26; John 21:5;">[xr]

They worshiped him andworshiped him and">[fn] returned to Jerusalem with great joy.Matthew 28:9,17;">[xr]

And they were continually in the temple blessingpraising; still other mss. read praising and blessing">[fn] God.God. Amen">[fn]Acts 2:46; 5:42;">[xr]

But when Jesus turned around and saw them following, he said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi," (which is translated "Teacher"), "where are you staying?"

He told them, "Come, and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four o'clock in the afternoon.the tenth hour">[fn]

Then he said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the man in charge of the banquet." So they took it.

After this, Jesushe">[fn] went down to Capernaum - he, his mother, his brothers, and his disciples - and they remained there for a few days.Matthew 12:46;">[xr]

After he had been raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this. So they believed the Scripture and the statement that Jesus had made.spoken">[fn]Luke 24:8;">[xr]

For everyone who practices wickedness hates the light and does not come to the light, so that his actions may not be exposed.exposed that they are evil">[fn]Job 1:24:13,17; Ephesians 5:13;">[xr]

They went to John and told him, "RabbiRabbi is Heb. for Master and/or Teacher">[fn] , the man who was with you on the other side[fn] of the Jordan, the one about whom you testified - look, he's baptizing, and all are going to him!"John 1:7,15, 27,34;">[xr]

At this point his disciples arrived, and they were amazed that he was talking to a woman. Yet no one said, "What do you want from her?"from her">[fn] or, "Why are you talking to her?"

So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there for two days.

They kept telling the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard him ourselves, and we know that he really is the Savior of the world."John 17:8; 1 John 4:14;">[xr]

So he asked them at what hour he had begun to recover, and they told him, "The fever left him yesterday at one o'clock in the afternoon."the seventh hour">[fn]
