They blindfolded him and asked him over and over again, "Prophesy! Who is the one who hit you?"

And they kept insultingblaspheming">[fn] him in many other ways.

They began to accuse him, "We found this man corrupting our nation, forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that he is the Christ,[fn] a king."Matthew 17:27; 22:21; Mark 12:17; John 19:12; Acts 17:7;">[xr]

So Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day. Before this they had been enemies.Acts 4:27;">[xr]

But they kept pressing him with loud shouts, demanding that Jesushe">[fn] be crucified, and their shouts began to prevail.

So he released the man who had been put in prison for revolt and murder - the man they continued to demand - but he let them have their way with Jesus.he turned Jesus over to their will">[fn]

As they led him away, they took hold of Simon, a man from Cyrene, as he was coming in from the country, and they put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.Matthew 27:32; Mark 15:21; John 19:17;">[xr]

Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us!', and to the hills, 'Cover us up!'Hosea 10:8">[fn]Isaiah 2:19; Hosea 10:8; Revelation 6:16; 9:6;">[xr]

When they reached the place called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.Matthew 27:33; Mark 15:22; John 19:17-18;">[xr]

When all the crowds who had come together for this spectacle saw what had taken place, they beat their breasts and turned back.

Then they went back and prepared spices and perfumes, and on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.Exodus 20:10; Mark 16:1;">[xr]

They returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and all the others.Matthew 28:8; Mark 16:10;">[xr]

But these words seemed nonsense to them, and they wouldn't believe them.Mark 16:11; Luke 16:25;">[xr]

While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself approached and began to walk with them,Matthew 18:20; Luke 18:36;">[xr]

He asked them, "What are you discussing with each other as you're walking along?" They stood still and looked gloomy.

He asked them, "What things?" They answered him, "The things about Jesus of Nazareth,the Nazorean">[fn] who was a prophet, mighty in the things that he did and said before God and all the people,Matthew 21:11; Luke 7:16; John 3:2; 4:19; 6:14; Acts 2:22; 7:22;">[xr]

and didn't find his body there, so they came back and told us that they had actually seen a vision of angels who said he was alive.

Then some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they didn't see him."Luke 24:12;">[xr]

But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is almost evening and the day is almost gone." So he went in to stay with them.Genesis 19:3; Acts 16:15;">[xr]

Then their eyes were opened, and they knew who he was. And he vanished from them.
