There was reclining on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.

Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from Myself, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.

No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

Some of His disciples then said to one another, "What is this He is telling us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, ‘because I go to the Father'?"

His disciples *said, "Behold, now You are speaking openly and are not using a figure of speech.

Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You,

When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples to the other side of the Kidron Valley, where there was a garden, into which He entered with His disciples.

Now Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often gathered there with His disciples.

Simon Peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave's name was Malchus.

The high priest then questioned Jesus about His disciples, and about His teaching.

Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, "You are not also one of His disciples, are you?" He denied it, and said, "I am not."

And when the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him;

They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, a part to each soldier and also His tunic; now that tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top.

Therefore the soldiers did these things. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He *said to His mother, "Woman, behold, your son!"
